Queens,NY- I wake up in the morning to the sounds of school kids hurrying to school, outside my building. I hear the bus's hydraulics kneeling for passengers to enter. On my way to school i board the train, I am conditioned to the subway signal of the doors closing and automatically rush in. I depart the train station in the city, hearing the sounds of the traffic on Lexington Avenue and 68 street. The professor hands everyone an exam, and we prepare to take the exam. We hear the noise pollution outside the window, stories above the street below. A siren is sounding below, and you can tell it is stuck in the traffic since its volume is so close. We begin the exam, trying to block the nuisance out. The siren's volume begins to fade as it echos down the avenue, nearing closer to its destination.I am relieved it has finally gone. I leave the class, I hear the sounds of the escalators moving in unison. I hear a voice call my name above the multiple conversations going on around. It is nice to finally hear a familiar noise that is nice to hear. We go to the cafeteria where the Hunter College radio station is being broadcasted aloud. The noise in the city is still at night when everyone is asleep and the taxis have minimized from what they were during rush hour. I am grateful for the silence we have during the night.
